XLS-68 Does Not Remove XRP | It Reassigns the Obligation

XRPL 3.3.0 includes the proposed XLS-68 Sponsored Fees and Reserves amendment, which would allow wallets, issuers and tokenization platforms to pay XRP transaction fees and assume account or object reserves for users who retain control of their keys and assets. Ctrl Alt helped develop the proposal with Ripple and the XRP Ledger community after encountering XRP funding requirements as an institutional tokenization problem.

This investigation examines whether XRPL sponsorship removes the need for XRP or simply transfers that responsibility to service providers. The evidence indicates that XRP would remain the network resource supporting fees and reserves, potentially functioning as reusable operational capital managed behind the application. However, the Sponsor amendment is not active on XRPL Mainnet, and no production deployment or measurable increase in XRP demand has been confirmed.
