Absa Corporate and Investment Banking has launched a digital asset custody service powered by Ripple Custody, moving its 2025 partnership with Ripple into a live, client-facing product. About this briefing
Video description
Absa Corporate and Investment Banking has launched a digital asset custody service powered by Ripple Custody, moving its 2025 partnership with Ripple into a live, client-facing product. But Absa was already an established securities custodian. The more important development is that Ripple has added blockchain-native key management, wallet governance and transaction controls to an existing bank custody franchise.
This investigation examines what the Absa launch confirms, why custody often comes before tokenization and other institutional crypto services, and what remains undisclosed, including named clients, assets under custody, supported networks and commercial scale. Ripple Custody is multichain, so the launch does not by itself confirm any use of XRP, the XRP Ledger or RLUSD.
